A prosecutor has detailed how former Migori governor Okoth Obado allegedly plotted to defraud the county government millions of shilling during his administration.
Obado and his four children, Dan Achola, Scarlet Susan, Jerry Zachary and Evelyne Odhiambo, are charged with conspiracy to swindle the county more than KSh 300 million.
During the Tuesday, October 25, court session, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission investigator, Robert Rono, testified that Obado used KSh 600,000 county money to buy 2000 envelopes translating to KSh 300 per piece.

Rono further told the trial Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi that Obado's government bought 8GB flash discs at KSh 3,000 each and 500 GB hard disk drives at KSh 15 000 each.

The contract was awarded to businessman Jared Oluoch Kwaga, a co-accused in the corruption case.
He said they received the contract forms when detectives raided Kwaga's home in Migori on March 15, 2018.
A spot check by TUKO.co.ke established that a 500 GB hard disk costs between KSh 4,000 and KSh 7,000, while an 8GB flash disc costs less than KSh 800.
The investigator also told the court that Obado paid KSh 3 million for 5,000 reams of printing papers, 1000 staplers at KSh 1200 per piece and KSh 1 million for pens.

As previously reported, Obado's two daughters defended themselves, detailing that they never received any prohibited funds from the county.
The duo stated that they were being victimized due to their father’s political stand. They also refuted allegations of receiving a kickback from the firms alleged to have been irregularly awarded contracts.
They also maintained innocence on claims of receiving stolen money from the county government.
