British multinational Diageo has appointed Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) managing director John Musunga as the new chief executive officer of Guinness Nigeria Plc, making him the latest in a line of executives from the Kenyan subsidiary taking up global roles.
Mr Musunga joined KBL in March 2021, replacing Jane Karuku who was promoted to the group managing director post at EABL. He will take up his new role from the beginning of November, replacing Mr Baker Magunda, who Diageo said has taken early retirement.

KBL is a subsidiary of EABL, which is in turn a subsidiary of Diageo Plc.
“We are extremely pleased with Mr Musunga’s promotion. His work over the last 19 months has been outstanding, especially his leadership in helping our Kenya business navigate and emerge stronger through the pandemic,” said Ms Karuku, commenting on the new appointment.
The Kenyan arm has been supplying a number of executives to Diageo’s overseas subsidiaries over the recent years.
